SPC Tapping Block Description and Use Material and Design: SPC tapping blocks...
Material and Design: SPC tapping blocks are typically made from sturdy, non-marking plastic and may be hefty in weight to facilitate the locking process. They often feature a specific notch or design to rest against the wider edge of a flooring plank, allowing force to be applied safely.
Function: During the installation of SPC flooring (which uses a click-lock system), the tapping block is placed against the edge of a newly positioned plank. A rubber mallet is then used to tap the block, which helps to close any gaps and fully engage the tongue-and-groove or click mechanism with the adjacent plank. This ensures a tight, seamless fit.
Purpose: The primary purpose is to protect the delicate locking edges (tongue and groove) of the SPC planks from being damaged by direct hammer blows.
Specific Application: The tool is particularly useful for robust, rigid SPC planks that may have tighter locking systems. It is generally used on the long side of the plank to ensure proper side joint engagement before the short end joint is fully engaged. A pull bar is often used in conjunction with a tapping block to help with planks installed against a wall or in tight spaces where the block won't fit.
Using the correct tapping block helps ensure a professional installation, protects the flooring material, and prevents damage that could void the manufacturer's warranty.
